After evaluating the current facilities, the building committee determined that consolidating Public Works operations is the most efficient solution instead of maintaining multiple outdated buildings.

The city’s initiative was to develop a centralized facility to enhance operational efficiency by consolidating vehicles, heavy equipment, tools, and office spaces for the Public Works and Parks & Recreation departments under one roof.

This new facility includes administrative offices, meeting and training rooms, a garage for fleet vehicles, and cold storage spaces. Previously, employees faced significant challenges moving between four different buildings to access necessary equipment, leading to inefficiencies that cost the city time and money. The streamlined layout alleviates these logistical issues and allows for a safer work environment by providing ample space for maneuvering heavy equipment.

In alignment with modern energy efficiency and safety standards, the facility will feature LED lighting that complies with Wisconsin’s latest energy codes, specifically ASHRAE 90.1 (2013) and IECC 2015. The design included comprehensive systems for power distribution, fire alarms, telecommunications, and security/access control. Furthermore, to ensure operational resilience, an emergency power system utilizing a natural gas generator maintains essential services in case of power outages.

This facility promises to effectively support the city’s operational needs while fostering a sustainable, efficient environment for future municipal operations.
