The main challenge of this project was to reimagine the building’s core systems to align with an open layout that highlights a modern aesthetic.
In collaboration with the Gensler team, Harwood developed solutions that reimagined the space. Enhancements to the existing emergency and standard power systems, ensuring that all wiring and controls are aligned with the new arrangement for furniture, A/V equipment, and lighting, were a top priority. On the mechanical front, we modernized the systems to align with the open-concept design, with exposed ductwork, and optimized HVAC zoning for improved comfort and efficiency.
Lighting was crucial in creating an inviting atmosphere. We introduced pendant cylinder downlights in communal areas, recessed linear lights in private offices, and pendant clusters in collaborative zones—all visible from the outside.
The result is a modern workplace that reflects sound engineering principles and showcases a new design vision within the historic City of Milwaukee. It’s a space where functionality meets beauty, creating an inspiring environment for all who enter!
“My experience working with Harwood on the Allspring project was fantastic; it was a very collaborative effort throughout the project to help clear hurdles as they arose. We worked with Tom Olejniczak, Spencer Cook, Tom Petersen, and Scott Gemske for all MEP trade engineering scopes, all of whom were very prompt and thorough with their assistance throughout the project. We worked together to solve problems that arose with underground plumbing obstructions that came with installing new piping in an existing building, as well as mechanical system questions to ensure we had proper airflow back to the existing RTUs, while maintaining Gensler’s design intent for the new space. I would greatly look forward to working with the Harwood team again, and would recommend them for any project.” Sean Sample
