Harwood's design is saving the county money and reducing the carbon footprint, thanks to the implementation of new HVAC and lighting systems.

A new, 50,578-square-foot center has replaced the outdated highway maintenance facility on Milwaukee’s north side, nearly doubling its size. This modern facility enhances operational capacity by accommodating more equipment and improving service efficiency for residents and visitors. It includes a truck wash, a repair garage, and 31 vehicle stalls of varying sizes. Key features include a five-ton crane, eight overhead doors, and a 14,935-square-foot office space with a mezzanine. Employee amenities include a locker room, breakroom, private offices, and a collaboration area. This $13 million project, funded entirely by Milwaukee County as part of its 2021 Capital Improvement Budget, also upgraded the site, providing access to a newly renovated 108-space parking lot benefiting those visiting Havenwoods State Forest and Schoenecker Park.
